No New Posts Beefy Red
Having commented on the Lions Share post, I wanted to ask out there for memories of Beefy Red, circa 1967-1972. You might know that John Whitelaw, a superb professional bass player who died in July, cut his teeth with the Tam/Drake/Redwood-based band. Full horn section, high chops level, jazz-blue...

No New Posts car ferry store in Sausalito...
Here's a tough one, what was the name of that old car ferry in Sausalito that was a Black Market/Cost Plus knock off? I remember all the bins full of crazy stuff, my favorite being the rubber tipped bamboo spears and hatchets. And the thing had these long wood decks that were curved and it moved with the ti...

The Brothers in Mill Valley on Locust. The Black Oak on Magnolia in Larkspur. Uncle Charlies in Corte Madera. Elwoods in Stinson Beach. I remember drinking in there one night when I was 13 , and I looked over to the end of the packed bar and saw my dad , drinking also. He never said a word to me about...

No New Posts Remember Black Market?
Anybody remember the Black Market import store on Greenfield Avenue, near where Elan Fitness is now? I remember it from the 70's. I mostly remember the concrete floor and the white painted footprints that disappeared into a wall. I used to think it was so creepY! What a great site and what fun it ha...

No New Posts Best and Worst Teachers at SRHS
Definately Mr. Grosser was the worst.. But Mr. Galley (Called Mr. Gay Lez by James Willits) was pretty bad too. He was a terrible teacher. The best was Mr. Diaz. I graduated in 1987, and my Mom graduated in 1966. She had Mr. Diaz also and said he was great then. -- Edited by jewels at 21:50, 2007-01-10

No New Posts Kentfield Poolhall
Hey; Anybody out there who hung out at Town and Country Billiards in Kentfield? Remember those machines that weren't exactly pinball, but you could shake 'em and win money? We called them "pigs". I worked briefly for Don DeSurville, the owner, at his San Rafael place too--the Charcoal Pit/Billiard...

No New Posts The All-Time Best Marin Pizza (Battle of The Decades)
In Marin County's history, where and when was The Single Best Pizza? This should include the present places as well. For example, does LoCocco's make "The Best Pizza of ALL TIME"? Has there EVER been a better pizza restaurant in this county's history? Let the debate begin. -- Edited by JasonLewis at 1...

No New Posts Summer swimming at Redwood High for 15 cents!
In the mid-60's summertime, if you were a kid growing up in Madera Gardens, you grabbed a few friends and walked or rode your stingrays along the dirt road by the slough behind lakeside drive to Redwood High, where for 15 cents you could spend the whole day swimming. If you were lucky you had an extra 10 ce...

Playing the "Marin remembering game" has become part of my drive home the last couple of nights since I first saw this site and posted on Monday. No New Posts Let's Hear those Lion's Share stories!
The hippest joint around. The best place for music, long before Sleeping Lady, Uncle Charlie's, Pepperland, etc. My favorite venue to see the Sons of Champlin, Van Morrison, etc. Marin was abundantly blessed with music luminaries, and it seemed that they all played there. Quick story to get th...

No New Posts The term "sando": only in Marin?
As someone who grew up in Marin and lucky enough to still live here (now almost 40), I have an important question to pose to the forum: are we Marinites the only ones to use the term "sando" (short for "sandwich")? Everytime I use this term around someone from work (many of whom grew up outside of CA), they...

No New Posts Raydine's Ice Skating Rink
Who remembers Raydine's in Corte Madera where Gold's Gym is now? I miss that place. What fun times I had there as a kid. I took private ice skating lessons every Sunday morning with my teacher Tony Howard, starting when I was around 10 years old. It was scary, but fun. I earned a badge for each level of diff...

No New Posts Zacks
Does anyone else remember Zacks in Sausalito? What a place to dance and meet people. It didn't matter how old you were, you could be 40 and you still had to show ID to get in the door. I did a lot of dancing in that place - and met some interesting people there. Those were the days!!!!!!!!

No New Posts Redwood High in the 1960s
Like many fellow Marinites, I attended Redwood High School from 1966 through 1970. The thing I remember most about Redwood was that when we started there it was still mandatory to attend "pep" rallies after school. You had to sit with your classmates and then cheer as loud as you could to ge...

Does anyone remember any of the stores that were originally at the two smaller Northgate Malls? The one with Longs and Michaels and then the one with Starbucks, Safeway. No New Posts Where were you in the '89 earthquake? (Preview)
I'm explanding on the comment I left on the 4th street post, so that others will share their stories of being in Marin during this crisis: I vividly remember La Petite Boulangerie's location because I was working there when the '89 earthquake hit! Does anyone remember when the north end of the Waldo Tunnel had "John Lennon Forever" painted over it? It was painted by a fan right after his murder and was left up until 1988 - I think. I know I can't be the only one who remembers it. Granted, Lennon's not my favorite Beatle but the powers that...

No New Posts Greenbrae Lanes
Jason, do you have any shots of the old Greenbrae Lanes bowling alley? Does anyone remember what year it was torn down? I'm pretty sure it was the early 1980s. Why it was torn down but the bowling alley in the canal still stands is a mystery to me.

No New Posts Any info on these Novato High School teachers: Ellen Gary, Ed Johnson?
It's a long shot, but I would really like to contact these teachers from Novato High School in the late 70s and early 80s.
