No New Posts Beefy Red

Having commented on the Lions Share post, I wanted to ask out there for memories of Beefy Red, circa 1967-1972. You might know that John Whitelaw, a superb professional bass player who died in July, cut his teeth with the Tam/Drake/Redwood-based band. Full horn section, high chops level, jazz-blue...

Here's a tough one, what was the name of that old car ferry in Sausalito that was a Black Market/Cost Plus knock off? I remember all the bins full of crazy stuff, my favorite being the rubber tipped bamboo spears and hatchets. And the thing had these long wood decks that were curved and it moved with the ti...

Anybody remember the Black Market import store on Greenfield Avenue, near where Elan Fitness is now? I remember it from the 70's. Definately Mr. Grosser was the worst.. But Mr. Galley (Called Mr. Gay Lez by James Willits) was pretty bad too. He was a terrible teacher. The best was Mr. Diaz. I graduated in 1987, and my Mom graduated in 1966. She had Mr. Diaz also and said he was great then. -- Edited by jewels at 21:50, 2007-01-10

Hey; Anybody out there who hung out at Town and Country Billiards in Kentfield? Remember those machines that weren't exactly pinball, but you could shake 'em and win money? We called them "pigs". In the mid-60's summertime, if you were a kid growing up in Madera Gardens, you grabbed a few friends and walked or rode your stingrays along the dirt road by the slough behind lakeside drive to Redwood High, where for 15 cents you could spend the whole day swimming. If you were lucky you had an extra 10 ce...

As someone who grew up in Marin and lucky enough to still live here (now almost 40), I have an important question to pose to the forum: are we Marinites the only ones to use the term "sando" (short for "sandwich")?
