A user named Mike Faires sent me this letter: "Just came across your Marin Nostalgia Site. Fantastic job! Love it! I wrote a memory note aways back, and posted it to FB. That note spurred a group on FB called "I Grew Up In Novato In The 60s and 70s". It's been a blast, remembering "shared" memories with new...

mikezee Date: Feb 19, 2007 In the mid-60's summertime, if you were a kid growing up in Madera Gardens, you grabbed a few friends and walked or rode your stingrays along the dirt road by the slough behind lakeside drive to Redwood High, where for 15 cents you could spend the whole day swimming. If you we...

HI! Was wondering if anyone remembers a restaurant that I think was at what now is the Smith Ranch Road exit on 101. I used to call it the "Duck Pond Restaurant" because when I was little, in the 60's, we would take the scenic drive all the way from San Francisco to Marin for special occasions a...

No New Posts Hotel Larkspur - 19th century handbill

(Preview)
I just got this amazing early handbill, printed on tissue-thin paper as was standard for such advertising meant to be pasted onto fences and posts. The hotel was built in 1895, the RR station in 1891, so I'm unsure of the reference to "New R.R. Depot." $1500 for a large lot was a chunk of mone...

Does anyone remember LeBistro's (San Anselmo) Cinnamon Rolls??? I worked there for 11 years and loved every sugary minute of it. Those cinnamon rollls brought people from all over the state...we even mailed some out of state. And of course the croissants were to die for.

One of the things I like most about looking at old photos are when there are glimpses of ordinary people captured just doing their everyday things, even if it's watching a parade. Here's a bunch of Marinites of 58 years ago, on Fourth Street in San Rafael in June 1950. (This is the parade during which the...
