There used to be an old yellow house off the 8th fairway of San Geronimo Golf Course and it was moved up the road to Nicasio for scenes in Shoot the Moon. I was told they had to dismantle the bridge over the road between the 9th and 10th holes to get it through. It is apparently is now up by the lake in Nicasio.

I was living on 5th Ave between G St & H St in San Rafael in 1979, and they were filming scenes to More American Graffiti a few blocks away. They were filming in a small house on either G St or Ida St just South of 4th St. My girlfriend and I hung out for hours watching Ron Howard and Cindy Williams shoot the scene.

In 1986, I was working at Fireman's Fund after it had moved to Novato. They filmed a few scenes for Howard The Duck around the lake which was built on the campus.

That's very cool Pangolin. I'll have to look for that movie. A little known movie also filmed here was " Shoot The Moon " with Albert Finney and Diane Keaton. It was shot out on Platform Bridge Road out past Samuel P. Taylor Park in the early '80's. A buddy of mine was in the teamsters and picked up cast members or crew in San Rafael every morning and drove them out there. I think they put up a temporary house in which to film. It was a disturbing movie as I remember. Haven't seen it in years.

It must have been 1967 or 68 when my mother was driving us kids through San Rafael. We went past the old Library building (on Grand St. east of the 101) and there were a whole bunch of trucks and people milling around. She stopped to find out what was going on. One of the crew people told us that Woody Allen was shooting his first movie, "Take the Money and Run". And lo and behold Woody emerged from one of the doors. They were shooting interiors in the empty building. I think it was the gang hideout.

I was on hand to watch some of the film shot for Gattaca with Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. This was at The Civic Center and the days I was there they were filming the interior shots of them coming up the escalator and walking down the hallway. Ernest Borgnine was also in it for exterior shots since he was the window washer and drove a cart up to the building when Ethan's character first comes up to the building entrance. We were up on the third level looking right below into second level where they were filming. We hung around for about 4 hours both days. It was really fun! We even got some food off the craft tables! HA!

I'm sure no one wants to remember this but I remember when George Lucas filmed parts of Howard the Duck down in the canal area, not far from Wendy's (which I think is still there) on W. Francisco, I believe.

I was just looking through the trivia section on movies shot in Marin and there have been a bunch of them! "Julia," starring Julie Christie and George C Scott (about 1966) had several scenes shot at the estate at Keil Cove in Tiburon. "Experiment in Terror," (1961) a terrific film-noir thriller starring Glenn Ford, Lee Remick and Ross Martin (remember him as Jim West's sidekick in the TV show the "Wild, wild West?") was shot mainly in San Francisco (the climactic scene actually was shot at Candlestick during an actual Giants/Dodgers game!), but there were two scenes that were shot at the old Town and Country Club in Fairfax at the swimming pool! The last few scenes from "Dirty Harry, (1971 with Clint Eastwood..terrific film!) were shot at the old Hutchison Rock Company in Larkspur, which is now covered with condos! Another good one, but it didn't get much play was "On the Edge" with Bruce Dern (1985). it was shot almost entirely in Marin and mostly on Mt Tam as it was a fictionalized account of the Dipsea running race (the name of the race was changed to "Cielo-Sea," in the movie, and the course ran over the top of Mt Tam!)
Beautiful photography of the Mountain! Parts of "The Serial" (1978) starring Martin Mull was shot in Mill Valley, as were parts of "Pete and Tilly," 1972 with Walter Mathau and Carole Burnett.
Woody Allen's did a wonderful film about the same time, (early 70s) "Play it Again Sam," which t also starred Diane Keaton (their first film together) and some of the scenes were shot at the Trident in Sausalito, and at Stinson Beach. Also in the great movie from the late 1940s, "Dark Passage" with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, the opening scene where Bogart has just escaped from San Quentin Prison, was filmed on the north side of the Tiburon Peninsula. and it should be noted that back before the 1920s, there was actually a movie studio in Fairfax where a number of silent westerns were shot, including the "Bronco Billy" series. And of course, part of "American Graffiti" (1972 with Ron Howard, Cindy Williams, Richard Dryfuss and Harrison Ford) was filmed in downtown San Rafael and at Tam High School in Mill Valley. Can't think of any other ones off the top of my head, but I bet there are some more!
