The Larkspur Parks & Rec Dept. in conjunction with the Larkspur Heritage Committee sponsors a couple historic walks through Larkspur neighborhoods twice a year, and two are coming up within the next month or two.
The first, on Saturday, April 21, tours Baltimore and Madrone canyons, concentrating on the distinctive homes of the area. The second, on Saturday May 5, goes through the downtown area.
They're guided by Larkspur residents Dick and Susan Cunningham, who provide a wealth of fascinating architectural and historic detail. Anyone with an interest in Larkspur history, as well as the Marin County of the past in general, will have a great time. They're not power-walks, just leisurely, non-demanding strolls, and go for about 2 hours. Both areas are right around the neighborhood I grew up in, and when I tag along I bring a selection of my photos from the 50s and pipe up with various of my memories as time (and the patience of the attendees) permit.
There's no charge, you just show up as follows:
Saturday April 21: Baltimore & Madrone Canyon. Meet at 10 AM on West Baltimore & Magnolia.
Saturday, May 5: Downtown. Meet on City Hall steps at 10 AM.
Those are the details as I have them at the moment from Dick. If you have questions, you can call him at 924-6976, or keep checking the Larkspur Park & Rec Dept. Home Page. Click on the Parks & Recreation Program link, but note that as of this posting, the program there is still the Fall & Winter one, and only lists last October's downtown walk.
I'll post another reminder as the dates draw near.
