Yes Cal's Steakhouse was at the n/w corner of Third and C Street. It was torn down well over 20 years ago and it is now a parking lot. The Executive Lounge was on the top (5th floor) of the office buidling at 4th and D streets. I do not know how long it was there (at least a few years as my parents used to go there). After it closed, it moved for a very short time to another office building downtown (I think the BofA building at 4th and A streets but not sure). It didn't last long and closed all together. Another post mentioned the the "pool room" at Third and Lincoln where the Goodwill is. Yes the pool room and Pinball machines were in the southern portion of the building (close to 2nd street), while the restaurant portion was in the Third Street end of the building. It was called something Billiards and the restaurant I cannot remember the name.
you're right - the Executive Lounge was on the 'top' floor. I remember traveling in a pack of girls. I was pretty darn cool with my Farrah Fawcett haircut, white rabbit fur coat and red Fiat Sypder ($850)!
couple of other nightclub memories: a young Taj Mahal at Fairfax (River something?), the Woods, also in Fairfax... then we got full-on into disco - Wimbledon in Sausalito with fake IDs. sneaking into Zack's by climbing over the the deck...
Wedensday nite at Cals, remember it well, a bunch of us who used to ride motorcycles used to go there all the time. Then, like you said, head up to the Exc. Lounge. I thought it was on the top floor?, little hazey. If I remember they had a dress code, maybe no Levis, I think we had problems getting in. So we would go to McArthurs or the Funny Farm or maybe the Jolly Rodger. Maybe we were in the same group?
What corner in a what current building was Cal's in ? I remember good burgers at the pool room at 3rd/Lincoln where the Goodwill is now but I don't remember what it was called.
The Executive Lounge, good one. I thought it was on the top like fourth floor, whatever. I wonder how long it lasted because it didn't seem long.
Does anyone remember Cal's Steakhouse in San Rafael (on 3rd?). We were 19 and 20 year olds (1974 or so)who could go there on Wed night Banjo Night and get pitchers of beer - served at family-style tables. Banjo band was a big whoever-wants-to-play band with kids, farmer types, grandmas, everyone...
Then we would go to "The Executive Lounge" (yeah, right) on Fourth (and D?) - take an elevator (!) to the second floor and dance to live music, again getting in underage...
