I never went there (my mom thought it was a "honky tonk"), but my older neighbors, who played bluegrass music would perform there occasionally.

Hell yeah!! I used to BEG my parents to take me there on my birthday. The food was so so but the place was totally cool. I remember it was kind of dark with tons of western themed stuff everywhere. I believe it was on 3rd and B.

Cal's has been replaced with a parking garage on the northeast side of Third and C; the building was torn down long ago. They had the best burgers and Western ambience....

Yes, the dump! That was quality kid's entertainment!

and the Cal Park tunnel, by the time I was in High school, they had covered it. Then, someone with a blow torch cut a door open, and we walked halfway through, until we saw shadows moving down on the San Rafael end. Never ran so fast in my life.

Oh jeez that Cal's Steakhouse is SO familiar but I can't place it!! Was it behind the Wells Fargo building on B Street side? I do think I went there, too.

That is so funny about doing to "the dump". I remember cars backing up to the big dump hole there where the Home Depot is now and seeing people just throwing in old TV's, cans of oil and other gross stuff, building material, sofas, mattresses, chairs, EVERYTHING! Imagine what is under that Home Depot! Scary!

Anybody remember this place? I think it was behind what's now Wells Fargo on fourth St. in San Rafael. It had guns and wagon wheels on the walls and saw dust on the floor. One of my favorite places as a kid! As was sitting in the bushes outside of the Marin Motor Movies, (Marin Square), watching a movie with that great echoing soundtrack, or daring each other to walk through the train tunnel between San Rafael and Larkspur. Here's a few more: Hutchenson's Quarry, (Larkspur Landing), going to the "dump", (Home Depot), the dirt motorcycle track at the end of Anderson, (Water Treatment plant), the Marin County Fair when it was at The Marin Art and Garden Center...I'll stop now.
