I grew up in Marin we moved to Belvedere when I was 3, so its the only home I know. I left after high school and I would do almost anything to get back there now. Although I live in Europe, I go home to visit as often as possible and I hope to be able to retire there if Im extremely lucky. Here are a few things that came to me while perusing the web site:

What I liked about Marin when I was a kid was that despite the fact that a lot of our parents had some money and/or were professionals, people didnt seem to flaunt their money the way they do now. Maybe they were kind of hippies but they were highly intelligent educated people and wanted to live in an area where their kids could play safely outside and you knew all the neighbors. We were very free, playing outside, riding our bikes around and to school, we knew when it got dark we had to go home. Now whenever I gohome, I'm sad to see that ever since Polly Klass, kids don't ride their bikes, they don't play on the streets in front of their homes, people are so afraid. Which seems so silly to me. I got stopped by a policeman in front of my house one, he didn't notice I was home, he noticed my name and let me go because he knew my mother. My sister got stopped once by someone I went to Redwood with!

Hey, a great 80s Marin band was The Tazmanian Devils, we used to see them play at the Sleeping Lady, and we stalked them at some recording studio in San Rafael!

The movie the Serial was also filmed in Belvedere, on the Belvedere Lagoon.

A really bad movie The Californians ( 2005) was filmed all over Marin.

We used to go to the drive in movie theater, early 70s maybe, in San Rafael, which is now a shopping center where Marin Outdoors is, and I remember the rock quarry at Larkspur Landing.

And I remember when there was an ice skating rink on Doherty dr., I think its a Gold Gym now.

Oh and a local celebrity is writer Anne Lamott, she always writes her novels based in Marin.

I went to Redwood High School, Huey Lewis and the News played at one of our school dances in the gym, either 1982 or 1983, I graduated in 1983, we were the last graduating class from Redwood to be allowed to have the ceremony on Mt. Tam!

I grew up in Belvedere, we had a Belvedere School & a Tiburon School for K-2 grades both are gone now.

The Boardwalk in Belvedere/Tiburon was really cool, we were allowed to ride our bikes around town, our mode of transportation, and wed go to the 5 & dime at the Boardwalk to buy candy.

Hickory Farms in Strawberry, where there were also several family style restaurants. The mall at Northgate was an outdoor mall.

Lots of celebrities in Marin: I think but I'm not totally sure that Robert Redfords parents lived in Tiburon at some point in the 70's, Grace Slick, Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi.
