Horse Hill in MV

Reading the posts of Sleepy Hollow Stables and riding in that area brought back memories of Horse Hill. I lived on Lomita in Mill Valley in the 60s, right across the street from the hill. Spent a lot of time up there and hanging out with friends who kept horses there. Remember the guy who ran the boarding there, Jim Howe? One of his horses, an x standardbred race horse named Pedro, kicked me and broke my arm about 1968. My grandmother used to baby sit him when he was a little boy. We used to go down to the SMHA arena, going along the railroad tracks. I had a friend when I was in 6th/7th grade who lived up off of Summit Ave, her family had a couple of horses they kept at their house. We used to ride along the fire roads up on Mt. Tam. I occasionally would go to Sleepy Hollow Stables and rent a horse or C Bar N and go riding. I went out to Circle V, in Fairfax with a friend who had a horse there and also went riding out in West Marin at (I think it was called) Don Brown Stables. I took riding lessons at San Geronimo Stables in the late 60s, owned by the family who owned French's Hitching Post in San Rafael. After I got my own horse, when we moved to Novato in 1969, I would go out to Redwood Stables, at the end of Vineyard Rd, and ride with a friend of mine who had a horse out there. In the early 70s my friends and I spent a lot of time at the Novato Horsemen's arena and Atherton Stables on H Lane, going to horse shows...there were many thru the spring and summer at that time.
