Paul, I'm still bummed the giant globe is long gone from the base of the flag pole at the Civic Center Post Office. (Why????)
I have no primary source for this, but I had heard that the globe was vandalized and everybody was too cheap to replace it. Obviously a custom-made item.
It's also interesting (i.e. unfortunate) that the classy-looking inscription on the wall to the right of the doors was replaced with one across the front over the overhang which, while using individual metal letters, is in the wrong style and color. Here's that previous pic:
Fantastic photos Paul! I grew up just a mile from the Civic Center and have been trying to find some early pictures. I remember spending hours in the library on hot days, and found FLW's architecture interesting as a child.
