Thanks Paul, I Had to save that site. I just spent 15 minutes just looking at the red and white Chevy station wagon picture and reading it's comments.

Not to mention the trains in downtown Chicago.

You think 35mm Kodachrome is something, check out what 4X5 (that's 4 inches by 5 inches, or roughly 18 times the image area of a 35mm slide) can look like, from 65 years ago here. Photos were shot for various government agencies for use in posters and graphics, hence the use of large-format cameras, most likely Speed-Graphics, then the most common news photo cameras.

Be sure to click the "View full size" links to see each one in all its eye-popping clarity.

Not much of local interest on the site, but the hi-rez imagery (both color & black-and-white) makes for time-machine material par excellence. Also a riot to read the comments from people who know nothing about the past but are positive they do ("Gotta be Photoshopped - they didn't have color film back then!" or my favorite "Has to be a fake! The dude has purple socks!")
