I can't believe the shit we got away with back then. I mean, we'd get a keg, start it right ther in the parkade until a cop would roll in, then it was up Bolinas Rd., till the Sherriffs came, then Alpine, when open, M-toff(can't spell that one!) coctails off dam. Hey who's an old LDL-er? Anyone know Monster? That was my boyfriend. Then there were all the parties after school out at the Meadows. I went to San Rafael High but would grab a friend and catch a bus for that!

No, but that's the last place I saw Bill B. I also saw the Venus/Mars dude there. Short. Everyone famous is short.
I love Lucinda's and wonder why people wait in longer lines at Hi Tech.
When I lose my mind like my parents, I'm going to order a Strawberito and a Sausarito there.

Also Paul, I clicked on someone's name here and it showed email. I don't know why mine doesn't come up but if you ever feel like telling me what happened to Larry B., Mine is my name @ sbcglobal.net and that's also to anyone who cares to write.

R54 , I worked at 723 for about a year and a half , in 1975-1976 when Jerry Cradeur
was the manager and Steve Green was the assistant manager. I heard Jerry wrote a
popular book on business. Steve was a totally cool assistant. One of the main reasons
I left is when they brought in Loren Modesset from the M.V. store. Loren threatened to
lay me off when I refused to clean Jerry's office. So I quit instead , and collected
my UI for years , even had it transfered to Maui , HI. I saw Loren chase some hippies
out of the store and tackle one of them for stealing some lunch meat. Later I heard
he got fired for embezzeling hundreds of dollars a day , fixIng the register tapes. What
a two face sack of dung he was !

Steve C. , I started a list this morning of people who I used to know that are no
longer with us , already have 28 names on the list , but I'm sure there are some I
might of forgot and so far there are 3 that were mean to me for no reason so if
someone else want's to list them they can.

Paul, Nice idea about general info obits.

And yes Steve H. was from MV and grew up with me but we met people from all over the county through jobs, etc.

I forget how he landed at Red Hill Shell. I landed up there after applying for a job at Shelter Bay ARCO and the owner, Ski Hasinski said he'd give me a job at his other stn. Fairfax Shell.

Not long after I went up there again because the guy who bought Pizzio's Chevron in MV
took over Fairfax Chevron after the owner apparently had a drug problem and lost the stn.

I enjoyed working all around the county. I even worked with Felipe A. in Tam Valley back then and god bless him, I can't begin to understand how someone could work at the same place for 38 years and then not want to leave.. Not me, never ever. Life is too short, The world too small.

I always thought Steve Hicks was originally from M.V. Safeway was the first straight
job I had. The crew there at the time was totally into whiff and racing cars , a great
intro to the working world for me , although I could only take it for a year , too
confining , I like to get around a lot. Yes I heard about Bill B. , I had seen him a few
times in the past 10 years. He was a nice person who liked to live in the fast lane, and
it took its toll. I have been thinking about starting a post in memory of the people
I knew that are no are no longer with us , what do you think ? No dates or causes but
just a mention of them organized by town in Marin and unincorporated areas.

Paul,
Steve Hicks at that time drove a yellow Datsun 1600 sports car and then a red Datsun 2000 sports car followed by a white Datsun 260Z and lived on Hooper Lane on the Fairfax/SA border.
And in case you had not heard Bill Bonge died of a brain anurism (sp?) last year.

The Ranchero guy's name was Mike. Total stoner, but a heart of gold.

A side note on Safeway. Hicks was working at the Shell Station across the street, applied and put his boss as a ref. He was denied employment (too hippie?) and when he pushed,he found out they never looked at his app. His boss called the manager of the store (his friend) and said "wasssupp with this?) and got hired.

Estebon Cariballis , yes I knew Bill Bonge , I worked with him and Steve Hicks at the
Slaveway store # 723 at Redhill in 1975. I remember Bill , Mark Oats and a few others
who would race like mad dogs up Bolinas Rd.. We used to drive up to the dam and
up to the ridge all the time. Bill used to drive a Datsun 1200 , and Mark drove a
Toyota Corolla 1600 , I drove the 69 Datsun Wagon SSS , super sport sedan with the
1600 engine from the Datsun fairlady sports car. I can't remember the ranchero but it
might have been Paul Porter. It was really sad when they put the gate just above the
Meadow Club and locked it every night at sunset. Our Party Was Over.

Paul, I was up there too. Did you know the late Bill Bongy who drove a Mustang and then a new white '74 Fiat 131 coupe and his friend who drove a little black '64 Ranchero. Or Barbara Nutter who's brother, I think designed the first water bed with air chambers.
It was magic when the moon was out.

My family moved from Bolinas to Fairfax in 1972. We lived up right below the Meadow Club in a little
area called Monte Cristo , actually not in Fairfax City limits but County. When I first moved there I did not
know anyone in the area but eventually I got to meet all the kids from San Anselmo , Fairfax and the
San Geronimo valley. They were a great bunch of nice people. The hip thing to do was go down to the
Parkade in Fairfax on Friday and Saturday nights. That was the happenin spot to meet and find out where
all the partys were , as there was usually a few. I remember a well organized group that used to rent a
big cargo van , pack it with keggers, a generator and band equipment and throw giant partys at Alpine
Dam at knight. There were so many people on the dam that I remember a few times some people in
cars were driving on the road probably going to Bolinas , but there was so many people packed on the
dam there is no way they could get through. They either parked and joined the party or turned around and
had to drive all the way back to Fairfax and go out to Bo through Olema. There were many partys out
there and MMWD decided to build a house above the dam and have a ranger live out there to squelch
any partys. Fairfax was a really happening place at the time , and I have a lot more good stories about
it , but I'm sure many other people can contribute . To be continued.
