Yep, you're right about the pier being built by C+H Sugar, and water being barged to Crockett. In Barry Spitz's newest book
about Marin history, there's a circa 1915 (?) photo of the trench being dug along side of what's now Sir Francis Drake by Bon Aire, to contain the line from Alpine to San Quentin Pt. They referred to it as "the sugar line". I think C+H wound up selling the land to the Rod and Gun Club for $1.00 in the 30's.

Yes, my family had a membership from the 1950's until the mid 1970's. My dad took us fishing from the pier several times, I don't think we caught much more than a few flounders & perch though. The old pier used to have a section at the end that was a 'T' shape, but it decayed to the point where they closed it down, the pier was originally built by C & H Sugar probably in the early 1900's, to supply water from Alpine Lake to the factory in Crockett, which they barged over to the Crockett plant, this is what I've heard anyway.I wonder if any of the forum posters are current members ?

I used to go fishing with my dad at the Rod and Gun Club , I think it was in the early 60's maybe late 50's. There used to be a little old man who used to be the watchman and make you sign. He also had fresh warm chocolate chip cookies for me. I think iI used to catch fish but it didn't matter, the cookies were great!
