I was a Girl Scout that year (Troop 995) and we were able to make a float for the 4th of July Parade. I remember being so excited because we were all going to be in the parade, and our float was of the Liberty Bell, made out of chicken wire and dark green
tissue paper. I don't remember the fire hydrants being painted, but that is a great piece of nostalgia!

What things do you remember happening in Marin for the bicentennial?
What I remember is that Corte Madera and Larkspur had someone paint all the fire hydrants along Magnolia with a revolutionary hero theme. They all looked like Little People toys! Also, the stop sign that is on top of a concrete mound, by old Corte Madera Square, the concrete was painted with stars and stripes.

Can you imagine that happening now?
